As per 1 January 2015 the ‘Work and Security Act’ (WWZ) entered into force. This act dramatically changed employment laws in The Netherlands, especially the laws concerning dismissal. The ‘Transition fee’ has replaced the severance compensation based on the ‘cantonal judge formula’ (kantonrechtersformule) and the compensation for ‘unreasonable dismissal’. The Transition fee is substantially less than the former severance compensations. However, the cantonal judge formula is still sometimes used in negotiations (settlement agreement).
